Alex 2017 FFA

“I started my journey in the ag world in fourth grade when I started raising sheep for the fairs.  For years, showing sheep and pigs was my only participation in the ag industry, besides visiting farms of my family members every once in a while.  High school was when I really started to get involved and immersed in the agriculture world.  My freshman year, I was introduced to FFA.  All I had known about FFA at that time is that they were the older kids that wore uniforms while showing their animals.  I went to a few meetings, and started to work on lots of projects that the chapter was doing.  I was introduced to the competitions that FFA offered, and got on a team and started practicing.  I was able to qualify for state in creed speaking, and also joined the Best Informed Greenhand team.  My team took sixth place that year at state.  This achievement showed me what I can do in FFA, so I ran for chapter office.  My sophomore year, I served as the chapter secretary.  That year, I participated in the Farm Business Management competition, and became extremely dedicated to that competition.  That year, my team placed eighth.  My junior year, I was elected as the chapter president.  I was able to qualify for state in the Job Interview contest, and competed in Farm Business Management again.  That year, we placed fifth.  This year, I am serving my second year as the Chiawana FFA Chapter President.  No other organization has ever taught me this much, or helped me grow this much.  My entire high school career has revolved around FFA, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I have done countless projects, and I have seen what a difference a few people can really make.  The biggest thing that FFA has done for me, is prepare me for my future.  Through my competitions, I have learned the things that I am passionate about.  Next year, I plan to study Ag Business, and this is all thanks to the experience that I have gotten the past years as a member.  I have learned responsibility, leadership, organization, and so many other things that I will use forever.  I am so thankful for the opportunities that I have been given, and the lessons I have learned, all because I made a choice to be an FFA member four years ago.”
